When I was watching some fireworks on the 4th I happened to notice my leg felt wet. When I got home I noticed it was leaking from my biopsy incision. The fluid was clear so I wasn't concerned. Sunday it was still leaking, dripping all the way down to my ankle every 5-10 minutes. Monday I called my doctor, Tuesday the P.A. called me and sent a prescription of antibiotics to a pharmacy for me. I wasn't able to pick it up on Tuesday. Wednesday morning I woke up to an extremely swollen knee. I couldn't hardly bend it. When I got up and started walking it started to hurt pretty bad. I called the doctor again, the nurse told me to come right in to see them. The oozing was now yellow (gross I know), my leg was also turning bright red and hot. When the nurse saw me she went and got the P.A. out of surgery to come and look. She told me it looked like I had a pretty bad infection since it was hurting so much. She said I needed surgery to have it washed out. She went and consulted with Dr. Randall who confirmed. So lucky me I went into another surgery at 2:00pm yesterday! The surgery went really well and I am in less pain now. The doc told Ben that my tissue inside looks like that of a 90-year-old woman. My leg is now in a immobilizer for 2 1/2 weeks and I am on crutches.

My at home nurse came by this morning to change my dressing on my leg. Here's a picture of the new wound. Also you can see where it is still red. It has gone down since yesterday, but the red was creeping all the way down almost to my ankle and wrapped around to my calves.

At the Huntsman hospital as they were prepping me for surgery they said that Dr. Randall wanted a picc line put in me to administer the antibiotics through. Below is a picture of what a picc line is.
Here is my picc line :)
The at home nurse this morning showed me how to administer my own antibiotics which includes several steps of sterilization, flushing, administering antibiotic, flushing, then injecting the heparin, and clamp. I have to do this 3 times a day including during the night for at least two weeks.
So needless to say this is a lot more then I thought it would be. I was hoping for a quick fix of just some oral antibiotics but Dr. Randall wants to be safe because of my tissue damage and how close it runs along my shin bone. I have to say though I am in good spirits about everything, because I am still cancer free!!!
P.S. Next time I post I promise no pictures with blood :)
